Putin seemed to be aiming at Trump during a speech in Moscow, where he said that Russia was the most important country in beating Nazi Germany.

In his annual Victory Day speech, Putin said that the Soviet Union “determined the outcome” of World War II. This came just a few days after Trump said that the US had won both wars by itself.

“We won both wars, and no one came close to us in terms of strength, bravery, or military smarts,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social page last week. Putin gets a red face when a protester with a Hitler sign jumps into the Moscow River.

But Putin, who was in Red Square with China’s President Xi Jinping, told the crowd that the USSR “took on itself the strongest attacks of our enemies” and that Soviet people “defended the front lines.”

Many people saw his words as an answer to Trump’s post, which made a lot of people in Russia angry because the huge sacrifices made by the Soviet Union during the war are still very touchy issues there.

There was a lot of security at the parade because there had been reports of drone strikes in Belgorod, which is close to the border with Ukraine, in the days before the event.

Putin’s speech in Moscow was called a “parade of cynicism” by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, who warned that leaders who went could not be sure they would be safe.

Even though people were warned, the show went off without a hitch. At the end, Putin and other leaders laid red flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
