There was no news conference planned and Zelenskyy was asked to leave the White House. The shocking public fight shook up politics around the world, and European leaders came together to support Ukraine.

For weeks, things had been getting worse.
The US and Russian leaders recently talked about ending the fighting, but Ukrainian officials were not there.

Trump said some false things about Zelenskyy in the weeks before the fight in the Oval Office. He called him a “dictator,” blamed Ukrainian leaders for Russia’s invasion, and said that Zelenskyy’s support in polls is only 4%, while he said nicer things about Putin.

Last month, Zelenskyy said, “I would like to have more truth with the Trump team.” He also said that Trump is living in a “web of disinformation.

There had been a lot of bad feelings between the two leaders, and they finally got physical last week at the White House. The deal for mining rights was set to be signed by Zelenskyy on Friday, as Trump had been pushing him to do so.

Instead, Trump and Vance yelled at Zelenskyy, which was one of the most dramatic events I can remember happening in the Oval Office in recent years.

The leader of Ukraine was being “disrespectful” to Trump, Vance said. After that, there was a heated argument that went on for minutes, with both speakers talking over the other.

European friends of the United States are worried about the way Trump is handling the conflict. They say that Russian aggression is a threat to their safety. After his fight with Zelenskyy on Friday, the president said that U.S. military backing for Ukraine was in danger.

After a meeting in London on Sunday night, Zelenskyy said that a peace deal “is still very, very far away.” His words made Trump angry again.

The Ukrainian embassy in Washington did not quickly respond to a request for comment on the subsequent weapons halt. The suspension applied to assistance former President Joe Biden’s government authorized but had not yet been delivered to Ukraine.
