Someone who used to be a federal lawyer in California said that he believes the sheriff’s office that is looking into what happened with John Elway’s golf cart is either lying or not doing its job.
Jeffrey Sperbeck, 62, fell off the back of a golf cart at the Madison Club in La Quinta, California. Sperbeck is Elway’s long-time friend and agent. A representative for Cal Fire told Fox News Digital that the company was called to the scene at 6:50 p.m. on March 26.
Unfortunately, Sperbeck got “serious injuries” and had to be taken to Desert Regional Medical Centre in Palm Springs, where he died on Wednesday.
The situation with the golf cart was looked into by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office. It has not been proven that Elway has broken any laws. Fox News Digital reported on Friday that Elway has hired Harvey Steinberg, a lawyer in Denver.
There’s no sign that this is anything other than a sad accident, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said in a post on X on Friday evening.
TMZ said Elway was leaving a Stagecoach after-party and was driving the golf cart at the time of the accident. Records made public show that Elway owns a home 10 minutes away from the Madison Club.
On Monday, two days after the event, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said it “received information.” After two days, Fox News Digital asked the sheriff’s office why it hadn’t heard about the event until then, but they didn’t answer.
A representative for Cal Fire said that the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office wasn’t asked to help because “the call was medical in nature.
When asked why it took two days for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office to find out about the event, former assistant U.S. attorney Neama Rahmani told Fox News Digital that the office is “either not being honest or not doing their job.
He also said, “Nothing else makes sense.”
It seemed “strange” to him that the police didn’t come to the scene of the crime.
Maybe the fact that it comes from a “former federal lawyer” is a good thing,” After reading the comments, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco told Fox News Digital, “It looks like we are all much better off with them in retirement.”
On Wednesday, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said it would “take appropriate action based on the outcome” of the investigation.
ESPN says Elway talked about what happened in public after Sperbeck died on Wednesday.
“I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the passing of my close friend, business partner and agent Jeff Sperbeck,” he said. There are no words to truly express the profound sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has meant so much to me.
After Sperbeck died, his family also said something.
We are very sad to say that our beloved Jeff Sperbeck has died. The Sperbeck family said, “He was a great father, husband, brother, son, and friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all.” “We are grieving this unimaginable loss as a family alongside our dearest friends, the Elways, and the many other clients Jeff called friends.”
After Sperbeck hired Elway as his manager in 1990, the two became friends. Sperbeck has also worked with Pro Football Hall of Famers Ronnie Lott and Jim Plunkett. The agent has also worked with hundreds of other NFL stars.
Fox News Digital put in a call to Elway’s lawyer to get his opinion.
