  • Messi’s PSG future unclear
  • Rothen says the move hasn’t worked out.
  • Messi feels like he has no one at Barcelona.

WHAT TOOK PLACE?

Messi made the shocking move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. Before that, he had spent his entire professional career at Barcelona, but they couldn’t sign him to a new contract because of the salary limits in La Liga. Messi hasn’t been able to play at his best for PSG, and it’s not clear what will happen to him there next season since his contract is up. Rothen hasn’t been impressed by the World Cup winner’s play at Parc des Princes and has said that he might still be mentally hurting from his departure from Camp Nou.

WHAT THEY SAID:

“Since he got here, Lionel Messi has been a strange case. It’s hard to talk that way about a player who has had such a big impact on the history of football, the former star of PSG told RMC Sport. “But, unfortunately, that’s the truth when it comes to his investment and how well he did. Just like that. There are many reasons why he can’t finish the course. He definitely feels a bit alone in Barcelona.

Even if he says his life has changed for the better, you can’t see it on the field. It can’t be seen, and there isn’t much fulfilment on the field, except maybe the last-second free kick against Lille. I really want to go to the club today. Luis Campos needs to take responsibility and say that Lionel Messi’s arrival was not always a good thing and was a failure.

THE BIGGER PICTURE:

After a disappointing first season at PSG, Messi has gotten better in his second year there. This season, the Argentine player has scored 16 goals and set up 14 others in 27 games across all competitions. Last time out, he scored the game-winning goal in the last minute against Lille. Messi flew to Barcelona after the game, where he met up with former teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. PSG manager Christophe Galtier gave the team some time off after the game.

DID YOU KNOW?

Messi hasn’t scored against Marseille in any of the four games he’s played against them in all competitions. He needs one more goal to reach 700 for his club career. The Argentine forward has only played so much against Inter and Rubin Kazan without scoring.

WHAT WILL MESSI DO NEXT?

On Sunday at the Stade Velodrome, PSG and Messi will play a very important Ligue 1 game against second-placed Marseille.
