Scottie Scheffler has a huge impact on golf. The tour star recently said that he is part of a team that wants to change a $100 million event.
The American, who is 28 years old, has made a big effect on the world of golf, and he recently said that he is helping to change the FedEx Cup, a major tournament he has long said he doesn’t like.
Scheffler said this about how the event would be set up in 2024:
“I believe it is silly.” It can’t be a race that lasts all season and only come down to one event.
In theory, when we get to East Lake, my neck flares up and doesn’t heal like it did at The Players. I finish 30th in the FedExCup because I had to drop out of the last tournament.” Is that really the race for the whole season? Not at all.
“It is what it is.”
Scheffler said he didn’t like the setup, so it looks like he’s not the only golfer who wants things to change.

Adam Scott backs Scott Scheffler’s plans for the FedEx Cup
Scheffler said at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last month that he and other Player Council members are currently talking about a number of new tournament ideas.
“I believe we’re looking at a number of different formats at the moment,” Scheffler said.
“Some of them were good and some were bad.” I’m not going to go into specifics about those forms yet because we are still working on their bugs.
Since then, Adam Scott has backed up Scheffler’s claims and now seems to be a part of the huge project to fix up the FedEx Cup.
Adam Schupak of Golfweek talked to Scott, who said that making the needed changes to the event might take some time.
One of the most important things we want for the future is for the FedEx Cup and the Tour Championship to be games that people look forward to and not just for fun.

• No more starting strokes
• New format won’t be match play/bracket-style
• Players reached consensus on new format at last week’s PAC meeting
• 2025 will be bridge year for changes
That’s the starting point from which we want to work.” We can’t change points, so it might not be possible to make all the changes we want this year. Hopefully, this year will serve as a bridge to next year.
Rory McIlroy, winner of the Masters, is currently very far ahead in the FedEx Cup rankings. The rest of the group, including Scheffler, is a long way behind.
How the new FedEx Cup might look
The current format uses a handicap system, where the person at the top of the rankings starts out ten strokes worse than par. As players move down the rankings, their advantage decreases.
As it turns out, this style is not at all liked by professionals. Players like Adam Scott and Sam Burns have both spoken out against it, calling it “gimmicky” and “confusing.”
The current setup seems to be going away, though it’s not clear what the new model will look like yet. Kevin Kisner, a past board member, has said that he wants a knockout-style layout.
I like the one that TV is going for.” Five to eight teams would play for their final spot on Sunday, after the top four teams competed in the final on Sunday. The Round of 16 would begin on Friday.
“I have a bias.” What TV likes is what I like. They give us the most money, and I like playing for a lot of it.
“That was an idea.” I am not sure if that is still the way to go. I believe it will be a more traditional competition with more weight. I don’t want to give away too much of the surprise.
