Today’s best college football games: what to watch during Rivalry Week

There is only one game left in the 2023 college football regular season, and many teams are at or near the top of the rankings. Rivalry Week gives these teams one last chance to make a good impression on the selection committee, keep their perfect season going, or pull off an upset that could change everything.

• In “The Game,” Ohio State and Michigan play. This game has big implications not only for the Big Ten, but also for the national title picture.

• Washington plays Washington State in the Apple Cup to try to stay unbeaten before going to the Pac-12 Championship Game.

• In the Iron Bowl, Alabama, which has only one loss, plays Auburn, which has seven wins and could pull off a big upset in Hugh Freeze’s first season.

• Florida State goes to Florida with a perfect record and a spot in the ACC championship game. They would like to avoid a loss after having to make a change at quarterback.

Many things are at stake in the Power Five and other conferences as well. Here are the most important college football games you should watch today.

All times are Eastern

Ohio State at Michigan

Why would you watch? Because you should watch the game between Ohio State and Michigan anyway. But this year, the winner gets everything. Not only a chance to win the Big Ten title against Iowa, which any team would want, but also a chance to win the national title as the clear favourite in the College Football Playoff.

Texas A&M at LSU

Why would you watch? To see if Jayden Daniels can do something else that will help him win the Heisman Trophy. For most of the season, LSU’s quarterback has been throwing like he’s in a video game. But the Aggies’ defence is one of the best in the country and will put pressure on him.

It will air at noon on ESPN.

The Alabama at Auburn

Why would you watch? The Iron Bowl is always a must-see at the end of the college football season. This year, it’s even more important because Alabama still has one loss and is playing Georgia in the SEC Championship Game next week. They could use this game to get closer to the College Football Playoff. Another question is whether Hugh Freeze can pull off a huge upset in his first season as Auburn’s coach.

When: CBS at 3:30 p.m.

Washington State at Washington

Why would you watch? Washington’s chances of making the playoffs aren’t totally over if they lose this game, but it wouldn’t help either. Since the Huskies already have a date in the Pac-12 title game, a team with only one loss could still make it if they win the last game in Vegas. The Cougars’ offence could really test Washington, whose games have been getting closer as the season has gone on.

When: Fox at 4 p.m.

Florida State at Florida

Why would you watch? To see if the Seminoles can stay perfect and keep up their overall output after quarterback Jordan Travis hurt his leg badly last week. Florida’s defence against the run isn’t very good, so FSU could rely on the run a lot. Gainesville needs to win this game and then beat Louisville, a top-10 team, in the ACC Championship Game to stay in the running for the College Football Playoff.

Watch it on ESPN at 7 p.m.
