Tiger Woods announced on Monday the 19 players who will be in the 2023 Hero World Challenge, the event he hosts.
This event has a small group and starts on November 30 at the Albany Golf Course in the Bahamas. On Sunday, Dec. 3, the last round will happen.
Eight of the top ten players in the world will play, including Scottie Scheffler, who is ranked number one in the world, and Viktor Hovland, who is ranked fourth in the world.
Hovland is the current winner and will be going to the Bahamas as the king.
The second- and third-ranked players in the world, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm, are not on the list of players that was shared on Monday.
It’s strange that McIlroy wasn’t included, since he is friends with Woods. Both of these golf stars are very close and spend a lot of time together. Their TGL Golf League will begin six weeks after the 2023 Hero World Challenge.
Still, the Northern Irishman didn’t show up for the 2022 event either.
It’s also pretty shocking that Rahm isn’t playing. In 2023, he won the Masters. This season, he also won three times on the PGA Tour. He has taken part in the Hero World Challenge three times, winning once in 2019 and coming in second place all by himself in 2020. Last year, he tied for eighth place in the Bahamas.
Having said that, it is important to note that both McIlroy and Rahm have agreed to play in the DP World Tour Championship, which will take place at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai from November 16th to 19th.
It’s possible that these two major winners want to take some time off before the 2024 PGA Tour season starts in January at The Sentry in Maui. Rahm won that last year.
Despite this, Woods left one sponsor’s exemption open on purpose.
At the last minute, McIlroy or Rahm might want to play.
Or, Woods might be healthy enough to play.
The 15-time major winner hasn’t played since April 2023, when he had to pull out of the Masters because his foot problem was getting worse. After a week, he had surgery on his ankle.

Since then, he hasn’t played.
Eleven of the twelve people on the U.S. Ryder Cup team will play in the Bahamas. Brooks Koepka, a golfer for LIV, did not get an invitation.
The first two rounds of the 2023 Hero World Challenge will be shown on Golf Channel. The third and closing rounds will be shown on NBC.
