In 2010, Qatar was given the right to host the 2022 World Cup, and former FIFA President Sepp Blatter was serving as the head of the world soccer federation at the time. Blatter has some regrets and admits that mistakes were made, but at the same time the globe is getting ready to travel to Qatar for the first-ever World Cup to be staged in a Middle Eastern country, he exposes this information.
Blatter expressed his open, second-guessing thoughts about the decision in an interview with the Tages Anzeiger, a newspaper published in Switzerland. According to ESPN, Sepp Blatter told the publication that Qatar is a mistake.
“Qatar is a mistake,” “The option was not a good one.” Blatter expressed his sadness and indicated that the country is simply not large enough to be capable of hosting an event of the magnitude of the World Cup in an effective manner.
Blatter remarked that the nation in question was “too little of a country.” The World Cup and football in general are much too huge for it.
Blatter also addressed the human rights concerns in the country, noting out that FIFA changed its hosting criteria in 2012 due to concerns surrounding the working conditions at tournament construction sites in Qatar.
The worries were prompted by the fact that Qatar is hosting the 2022 World Cup. Blatter is quoted as saying that “since then, social factors and human rights are taken into account.”
The World Cup has recently been the target of criticism for its choices to limit alcohol consumption and ban sexual activity between unmarried people.
Additionally, the World Cup’s lack of preparation has already been compared to that of the disastrous Fyre Festival. Whether or not it was a mistake, there is nothing that can be done about it now. The 2022 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to begin later this month regardless of whether or not the country is ready for it.
