Brazil could lose the Nike deal if another company makes an offer of $197 million.

Since 1996, Brazil has had a deal with Nike to make their uniforms. The first yellow uniform with the Swoosh on it was worn at the 1997 Copa America. Together, they’ve made what is probably the most famous soccer kit in the world. Remember when Brazil made it to the World Cup in 1998 and 2002.

Since 1996, Brazil has had a deal with Nike to make their uniforms. The first yellow uniform with the Swoosh on it was worn at the 1997 Copa America. Together, they’ve made what is probably the most famous soccer kit in the world. Remember when Brazil made it to the Final of the World Cup in 1998 and won it in 2002. Nike helped the yellow kit stand out by making it easy to recognize.

But it looks like the deal between the two may be ending. Other companies are willing to pay more than Nike to make kits for Brazil’s national team. At the moment, Nike gives $35 million to Brazil every year. But the Brazilian news site UOL says that other companies are willing to pay $197 million to be able to make Selecao kits. The deal was made by either Adidas or Puma, but UOL couldn’t figure out which one charged such a high fee.

That price is more than five times what Nike normally charges for a deal with Brazil. Also, the deal that either Adidas or Puma is giving is different from the deal that Nike already has in a number of ways. Most of those come from profits on shirt sales. The Brazilian Federation does not get any of the money that Nike makes from shirt sales right now. To make sure that clubs in Brazil follow the rules, the CBF has asked Nike to add this to their present contract. Brazil had to look for a new maker because Nike turned down their request.

As part of the new shirt deal, the company that makes the gear would also have to open shops to boost sales. In a lot of ways, Nike hasn’t done enough to build on the huge Brazil name. At least based on the offer, Brazil would take a big step forward if they signed Adidas and Puma.

Brazil’s loss of the Nike deal is the latest change in the makers

Kit makers have been talked about a lot lately because some of the biggest soccer names have switched who makes their kits. Germany broke its deal with Adidas because Nike offered more money. That was the biggest change. Since 1950, Adidas has made Germany’s kits. The shirts worn in the 2026 World Cup will be the last ones made by Adidas.

If Adidas gives the Brazil Federation more money to make kits, that money might play a part. That being said, Adidas quickly made some of those saves count when they won the right to make Liverpool’s uniforms. Adidas did not say how much they paid for the Liverpool kit duty. It’s more than $50 million a year, though.

Adidas has a lot more stores than Puma, so adding Brazil would make Puma’s foreign group even bigger. Six teams wore Puma uniforms at the 2022 World Cup. That had Ghana, Uruguay, and Morocco in it. Puma just lost their job making shoes in Italy. So, it might be ready to play another big team like Brazil. Puma signed a $860 million deal with Manchester City in 2019 for 10 years.
