Who won the Ballon d’Or in 2023 and how many points did each person get?
  • With the most points, Lionel Messi won a record eighth Ballon d’Or. He did this after a great season with Argentina and Paris Saint-Germain. Erling Haaland had a great season with Manchester City, hitting 52 goals and breaking records, but they came in second.
  • Even though Kylian Mbappé scored a hat-trick in the World Cup final, he only got third place with 270 points because PSG hasn’t done well in big events lately.
  • The 2023 Ballon d’Or event is over, and Lionel Messi has won the award an amazing eight times. His victory is mostly due to Argentina’s success at the 2022 World Cup. He may know why he won the award, but it’s still interesting to see how easily he did in the vote. Indeed, the star player for Inter Miami finished 105 points ahead of the player who came in second place, Erling Haaland.

There are now ten guys in the running for the Ballon d’Or, and we’ve put together a list of all ten of their points totals for you to enjoy. The winner was chosen by a panel of 100 writers, one from each of the top 100 countries in FIFA’s men’s world rankings. Performances from the previous European season were taken into account instead of events that happened throughout the year, which was the case before.

Cast a spell on Over the past ten years, the Croatian has been one of the best midfielders, regularly doing great things for both his club and his country, even though he is now in his late 30s. He started every World Cup game last year and helped his team make it all the way to the semi-finals and win the third-place match.

At Real Madrid, he played 52 times in all tournaments and helped them win the Club World Cup and the Copa del Rey. Because of this, Modrić did just enough to get 19 points and finish in the top 10. Besides that, this puts him third on the list of players who have won the Ballon d’Or the most times.

Bernardo Silva – 20 points

At the 2023 Ballon d’Or event, Manchester City was named Men’s Club of the Year. This is because they won the triple, so it’s not surprising that a few of their players made the top ten of this list. They had a lot of success thanks to Bernardo Silva, who is ninth on this list with 20 points.

The player from Portugal played in all 16 Champions League games as Pep Guardiola’s team won the title for the first time in the school’s history. Another thing is that he played in 34 of the 38 Premier League games and 4 of the 5 FA Cup games, all of which Man City won. Silva’s endless energy and amazing athletic skill would make it hard for the club to do as well.

Victor Osimhen – 24 points

This is what Victor Osimhen had in 2022–23. Indeed, he scored 26 goals and set up five others in 32 Serie A games to help Napoli win their first Scudetto since 1990, which is 33 years ago. His goal in a 1-1 home draw against Udinese was also the one that sealed their win.

It’s not a surprise that the scorer is getting praise after helping make such an important time in Italian football. That gives him 24 points, making him the first Nigerian to ever finish in the top ten of the Ballon d’Or. It’s really not bad.

Julián Álvarez — 28 points

What’s better than a season where you win three trophies? Why not add the World Cup to that season as well? In fact, I don’t think many football players have ever had as much success in one year as Julián Álvarez did in 2022–23.

In his first season with Man City, he got three major awards. In the middle of those, he went to Qatar to win the biggest award of all. In addition, he was an important part of both teams. He scored 17 goals for his club in all categories and 4 goals for Argentina as they won the World Cup last winter. When all of that is taken into account, he might deserve to be even higher on this list.

Vinicius Junior – 49 points

If we only look at the numbers, not many people could have done better than Vinicius Junior last term. The exciting winger smashed through defenses for Real Madrid many times, scoring 23 goals and setting up 21 others in 55 games.

As it turned out, he didn’t quite have enough trophies to get any more points than 49. Madrid didn’t win either La Liga or the Champions League, and Brazil eliminated in the quarterfinals of the World Cup. He’s expected to be one of the top candidates for the Ballon d’Or in 2024 and many more times in the years to come.

Rodri – 57 points.

Rodri
Rodri

Rodri is the third of five Man City players to make this list, and he may have been the most important player in the team’s many wins last season. Even though Haaland scored the goals (more on that later), Guardiola’s team would not have been able to hold games so tightly without the Spanish player getting the ball back in the middle of the field and setting the pace.

City has lost every game he’s been out for this season, which shows how important he is to the team. But it was clear in a more concrete way in the Champions League final. For his part, Rodri scored the game’s only goal in a 1-0 win and was named Player of the Match. He is fifth on this list with 57 points.

Kevin De Bruyne got 100 points.

Kevin De Bruyne has been City’s star player for a long time now. His incredible passing skills have been able to break down defense after defense. If he’s not setting up other players, he’s not afraid to just shoot in perfectly placed long-range goals—just ask Real Madrid fans.

The Belgian hasn’t been in the news much lately because he’s been hurt, but we shouldn’t forget how important he was to his team last season—he scored two goals and set up three others in six Champions League knockout games. In the Premier League, he scored seven goals and set up 18 others.

Kylian Mbappé – 270 points

Kylian Mbappé

Kylian Mbappé stands out as one of the players in the world who most definitely will win the Ballon d’Or one day. Still, he had to be happy with third place this year, with 270 points. This is true even though he scored three goals in the World Cup final and helped Paris Saint-Germain win Ligue 1.

His team still lost that final to Argentina, though, which was bad for the Frenchman. Also, PSG didn’t make it very far in the Champions League, so his solo accomplishments weren’t quite matched by prizes on the biggest stages. With 12 goals and 1 assist in 13 games so far this season, he’s already making a good case for at least the 2024 award.

Erling Haaland – 357 points

The most work was done by Erling Haaland during the 2022–23 season. In fact, the scorer scored a huge 52 goals in all categories as he led Manchester City to a famous treble. He scored 36 goals in the Premier League, breaking the record for most goals scored in a single season. He scored six hat-tricks along the way.

That’s even more amazing when you think about the fact that it was his first season playing football in England. He also scored 12 goals in 11 Champions League games to help his team get to the final, making him the league’s top scorer. This was good enough to win the famous Gerd Muller Trophy as Europe’s best scorer last season, but he was still 105 points behind the winner of the Ballon d’Or.

Lionel Messi – 462 points

As you all know, Messi won the eighth Ballon d’Or of his career by coming in first place in the voting. The Argentine scored 462 points, which was another victory in his long and successful career. He finally won the World Cup in Qatar, which solidified his position as the best player of all time in many people’s eyes.

There’s no denying that he was the best player at the 2022 World Cup, hitting seven goals in seven games and setting up three others. But let’s not pretend that he wasn’t good last season. He won the Golden Ball for being the best player… He also helped PSG win Ligue 1, scoring 16 goals and setting up 16 others in 32 league games. He really is a great player, but this might be the last time he gets in the top ten for this award.
