A ridiculously short free kick was one of the USMNT’s four goals in the first half against Ghana.

In a friendly match on Tuesday night at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee, the U.S. men’s national team beat Ghana 4-0.

After losing badly to Germany on Saturday, this was the perfect way for the team to get back on track. The USMNT tied its record for most points scored against an African team, which it set against South Africa in 2000 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.

In the first half, the USMNT scored three goals in just 12 minutes. A strange set of events led to an indirect free kick inside the 18-yard box, which they used to score their fourth goal before break.

Two of those goals were scored by Gio Reyna, who was in a lot of trouble after the 2022 World Cup. One of them was an exciting indirect free kick. Reyna played in his first game with the USMNT since the family fight at the World Cup on Saturday, when they played Germany.

Here are the best parts of Tuesday night:

USMNT 4, Ghana 0: Gio Reyna scores on indirect free kick

You don’t see this kind of goal every day.

Even though Ghana was already down 3-0 to the USMNT, they had another chance to score when defender Nicholas Opoku tried to stop the play by sitting on the ball. The ref gave the U.S. an indirect free kick inside the 18-yard box, so that didn’t work. The ball was poked by Gio Reyna to Christian Pulisic, who tapped it back. Reyna then kicked the ball over a line of Ghana players and into the goal.

Ghana 0–USMNT 3: Rout is on now that Folarin Balogun has scored.

In this one, Tim Weah took part. Weah helped set up the third goal after setting up Christian Pulisic’s penalty kick goal. The U.S. was pushing, and Jerome Opoku couldn’t handle a pass on the side. Weah got the ball and passed it to Balogun, who spun as he took a touch and scored from the middle of the penalty area. It was his third goal in six games for the USMNT.

The USMNT beat Ghana 2-0 when Christian Pulisic saved a penalty kick.

Pulisic scored another goal three days after getting a golazo against Germany. His total of goals scored keeps going up. Sixth all-time in goals scored by the USMNT, Pulisic scored his 28th national team goal. He is now only two goals behind Brian McBride for fifth place on the all-time list.

Pulisic’s penalty kick was made possible by Gideon Mensah’s foul on Tim Weah in the 18-yard box.

USMNT 1, Ghana 0: Gio Reyna starts a string of goals

The U.S. quickly took over the game. After dribbling the ball towards the goal, Sergiño Dest sent a pass wide to Folarin Balogun. The defender Nicholas Opoku caught the cross and it went in. Gio Reyna was there to take the rebound and hit the goal with a right foot shot from about 12 yards out. He scored his first goal for the USMNT since June 2021.
