Lexi Thompson has already made history at the Shriner’s Open this week, no matter how she does. Because a backer invited her to play, she became only the seventh woman in PGA Tour history to do so.

Thompson’s next step was to make the cut after her second round.

She told Yahoo Sports, “All I know is that making the cut would without a doubt be the proudest thing I own.”

Thompson was very close after her second round on Friday, but it looks like she will just miss the cut after shooting a 2-under 69.

One shot off the expected cutline, Thompson’s score was definitely something to be proud of.

It had been 36 holes, and she would have been the first woman since Babe Didrikson Zaharias in 1945 to make the cut at a PGA Tour event.

Zaharias often played against guys on tour, and she helped get people interested in women’s golf and the LPGA in the way they are now.

Thompson drew a lot of attention to this week’s event, and her exciting and competitive style of golf kept the interested fans coming back.
