Milan beat Napoli in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, setting up an exciting matchup with city foes Inter in the semifinals. But if AC Milan win it all, there will be a few players on the team who won’t get an award for their work. One of these players is a well-known figure in the sport.
This player is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a Swedish striker who will not get a medal if Milan wins their eighth European Cup. The 41-year-old has only played for the team four times in all tournaments. He has scored only one goal and hasn’t had any assists. But his possible lack of medals is not because he doesn’t have enough minutes.
Why won’t Zlatan get an award for coming in first?
He wouldn’t get a medal if AC Milan won the trophy because he is not on their roster for the European tournament. Zlatan has played for Manchester United, Barcelona, Ajax, Juventus, Inter, Milan, and PSG, but he has never won the Champions League.
Even though AC Milan has been doing so well in this year’s tournament, Zlatan would have to watch from the sidelines as his friends celebrate with their trophies. The Italian team, which is also in the semi-finals this year, is second in the all-time lists with seven titles, seven behind Real Madrid, which also has seven titles.
Sergio Dest is also not on the official squad list for the Champions League, so he wouldn’t be invited to any parties. But his position is a little worse than Ibrahimovic’s because Dest was even allowed to leave the team in the middle of the season to play with the USMNT in order to get more playing time.
