Scottie Scheffler won’t have Ted Scott with him in the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship, which makes things a little different.

Because of a personal issue, the famous caddie had to go back home right away, so Scheffler will have to try to win his 18th career title without him.

The PGA Tour’s website said that Scott would not be playing in the fourth round of the first playoff match. There were no public details given about why the caddie had to leave, but Scheffler will have a familiar face taking care of his bag.

Brad Payne will be Scheffler’s caddie. Payne worked with Scheffler during the third round of the 2024 PGA Championship, but that event has been overshadowed by Scheffler’s arrest at Valhalla Golf Club that week.

Payne is the pastor for PGA Tour players and is very close with Scheffler, both through his work on the tour and because he lives in Dallas as the current World No. 1. Payne has also caddied for a lot of different players and even played golf in college for Pepperdine University.

From 2022 on, Scheffler and Scott worked together. In the same year, Scheffler won his first four PGA Tour events, including his first major pro title. Since then, he has won 17 events on the American tour, four of which were majors, and Scott has always been in charge of his bag.

His gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, his wins in the 2022 and 2024 Presidents Cups, and his participation in the 2023 Ryder Cup should be added to these impressive list of accomplishments.

Scheffler would be the first person to win a PGA Tour title without Scott by his side if he wins the FedEx St. Jude Championship this Sunday. Even though Scott looped for Scheffler in the first three rounds.

Scheffler is very much in the running for the title at the event, which took place at TPC Southwind. He is only two shots behind the leader, Tommy Fleetwood, with 18 holes to play. His score is 12 under par.
