NEWS FLASH A former star running back for the Dallas Cowboys is said to have died in his sleep.

NWA Online says that a former running back for the Dallas Cowboys has died. He went peacefully in his sleep last Wednesday.

Walt Garrison was 79 years old when he died. Because he loved rodeo, he was seen as one of the real Cowboys to have played in the NFL.

Garrison ran for more yards than anyone else in the Big 8 while at Oklahoma State. In 1972, he won a Super Bowl with Dallas. That season, the member of the Dallas 25th Anniversary Team went to his only Pro Bowl.

The running back played for nine years before quitting in 1974. He was the team’s third-best rusher and fourth-best catch at the time of his retirement. He still has 3,491 running yards, which puts him ninth on the Cowboys’ all-time list for rushing yards and fourth for yards per carry.

It was not said what caused the death.

Garrison said that rodeo was his “first love” and that he would go to local events to participate after team meetings during his rookie year. This made head coach Tom Landry tell him he couldn’t do any extra work during the season.

He had said, “I wasn’t starting,” several times. “The only thing I did was cover for the kamikaze squad and return punts and kicks.” You might even hurt yourself more on them than on rodeos. The Cowboys thought a lot about it, but I didn’t.”

It was first reported on Total Pro Sports that a former Dallas Cowboys star running back was said to have died in his sleep.
