Middlesbrough has been doing well under Michael Carrick, and they beat Millwall 1-0 at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.
With the win, Boro moved up to fourth place in the Championship. They are unlikely to finish in the top two, but fans will feel that promotion through the play-offs is a real possibility, which didn’t seem likely when Carrick took over.
Even though the team has been doing well, the manager will want to add to his team before the deadline. The Telegraph says that Boro are competing with Norwich and Cardiff to sign Keanu Baccus.
The Australian international, who just played in the World Cup, is currently with St. Mirren, but it is thought that he will be available for only £350,000.

Winner: Keanu Baccus
You’d have to say that the player himself is the big winner in this case.
Baccus started his career in Australia, but he is now playing for St. Mirren in Scotland, which is a huge step up.
He would join a big club in the Championship, and there’s a chance he could be in the Premier League in six months, which is arguably the best league in the world. So, this is a great chance for him that he will want to take.

If Baccus joined the team, it would be harder for the midfielders who are already there, like Mowatt.
Since he joined on loan from West Brom, the left-footed player hasn’t made as much of an impact as he would have liked, and Carrick often puts him on the bench.
If Baccus joined the team, Mowatt’s position would drop even further, and he might spend most of the rest of the season sitting on the bench.
